Teen Trio Adds Youthful Diversity to the Citizen’s Newsroom
Excelsior Springs, MO—The Excelsior Citizen is happy to have three talented teenagers from Excelsior Springs High School on its growing team. Brody Hurla, Kane Marker, and Mackenzie Cole bring a unique blend of skills and enthusiasm to the newsroom, strengthening the Citizen’s commitment to covering Excelsior Springs.
Brody Hurla, a senior, is passionate about journalism, with a particular interest in political and pop culture reporting. Brody is a well-rounded student, actively involved in bowling, competitive acting, debate, and mock trial. When not writing for the Citizen, Brody finds time for music and supporting his family.
Kane Marker, another senior, brings a sports enthusiast’s perspective to the team. A state-qualifying trumpet player and football team manager, Kane aspires to be a sports journalist or broadcaster for a professional team. He plans to study sports journalism and business at the University of Missouri.
Mackenzie Cole, a junior, is already a social media wiz, having grown the Citizen’s TikTok audience to over 14,000 followers through her creative use of local events and trending content. An aspiring illustrator who recently completed her first children’s book, Mackenzie also possesses a keen sense for investigative reporting. This summer, she’ll join 250 of the nation’s top journalism students at the prestigious Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University.
The Excelsior Citizen is proud to have these “Teen Titans” in our newsroom, delivering a fresh perspective on the community. Their contributions have already enriched the Citizen’s coverage helping to strengthen our community connections through their passions, knowledge, and networks.
