Ray Leads Lady Tigers at Battle at the Katy Trail in Sedalia

Sedalia, Mo. (December 20, 2025) – The Lady Tiger wrestling team traveled to Sedalia’s Mathewson Exhibition Center on the grounds of the Missouri State Fair to take part in the Battle at the Katy Trail tournament Dec. 19–20. The team finished in eighth place out of 50 teams, with three wrestlers placing in the top eight of their brackets.

Sophomore Haylee Ray took home the 140-pound championship by going 4-0 on the weekend. She opened with a first-period win by fall over Harper Mahan of Centralia. She went the distance with Abigail Bowen of Mexico in the second round and picked up a 13-4 major decision win. She dominated Tayja Hernandez of Mid-Buchanan in the semifinal with a 12-2 major decision to advance to the championship match against Elka Endres of North Callaway. Ray picked up a takedown 46 seconds into the match to take a 3-0 lead in the first period. The two wrestlers went to the third period without scoring until Ray picked up an escape and a takedown, then won by fall with 11 seconds remaining to claim the championship.

Sophomore Lily Goetz entered as the No. 4 seed and finished in third place. She opened the tournament with a 6-1 win over Kinley Webster of Oak Grove. She followed with a first-period win by fall over Emily Phillips of Lone Jack after building a 7-0 lead. She defeated Grace Brantley of Versailles with a 15-0 technical fall to advance to the 120-pound semifinals. Goetz held a 3-0 lead over Haley Brooks of Holden before Brooks took her down in the second period and won by fall, sending Goetz to the third-place match. Goetz closed the tournament with a 12-0 major decision win over Evenlyn Heintz of Rock Port.

Sophomore Bristol Sharp entered the 100-pound bracket as the No. 7 seed and finished in seventh place. She opened with a 3-0 win over Catalina Mallory of Lafayette County. She dropped her next match to Chloe Zeller of Stover by a 5-1 decision. After receiving a bye, Sharp defeated Bentley Thomas of Carrollton by fall after building a 12-1 lead. She fell to Serena Lurten of South Harrison by a 3-0 decision before reaching the seventh-place match. Sharp battled Addison Kuda of Butler before earning a third-period win by fall after the match was tied 5-5.

Mid-Buchanan won the team title with 258.5 points. Adrian finished second with 215 points, followed by Knob Noster with 199 points. Brookfield placed fourth with 169.5 points, and Lone Jack rounded out the top five with 164 points. The Lady Tigers tied El Dorado Springs with 147 points to finish eighth.
