Missouri’s “Neighboring Guru” to Speak at Excelsior Springs Library
Excelsior Springs, Mo. — Local residents interested in building stronger communities through everyday connections are invited to attend a special evening with David Burton, Missouri’s “neighboring guru,” on Tuesday, March 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the Excelsior Springs Library.
The free event, organized by Neighborhood Specialist Laura Mize, will feature Burton’s insights and encouragement for those working to be better neighbors in their communities.
Burton serves as a Field Specialist in Community Development for the University of Missouri Extension and is widely recognized as the driving force behind Missouri Good Neighbor Week, celebrated each year from September 28 to October 4. He is also the host of Neighboring 101, a monthly virtual session bringing together community-minded individuals from across the country.
“David Burton has dedicated his career to helping communities grow stronger through the power of neighboring,” Mize said. “We’re thrilled to have him share that passion with Excelsior Springs.”
With a background in journalism and integrated marketing, Burton has authored six books and contributed to Missouri newspapers for nearly two decades. Since launching the Engaged Neighbor initiative in 2019, he has inspired countless Missourians to take the simple steps that foster safe, connected, and vibrant neighborhoods.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about Burton’s approach, hear success stories from around the state, and take the Engaged Neighbor Pledge, which encourages citizens to take an active role in improving their neighborhoods.
