Excelsior Springs Woman Charged with Stealing Packages from Porches in Clay County

Kayley Worthington

A woman has been charged with stealing packages from porches throughout Clay County over the past weekend. Kayley Worthington, 24, of Excelsior Springs, faces one count of felony theft and one count of felony possession of a controlled substance. She is currently being held in the Clay County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond. If she posts bond, one of the conditions is that she must stay at least 100 feet away from anyone’s porch, other than her own. Additional charges against other suspects are possible.

Sheriff’s Office investigators began looking into a string of package thefts after seeing multiple reports on social media about stolen deliveries in Liberty, Smithville, and Kansas City North over the weekend. The investigation led them to collaborate with the local police departments in those areas to identify the culprits.

Their efforts culminated in a search of a home in Excelsior Springs on Monday evening, where Worthington was arrested. Deputies also served a search warrant at the residence, recovering 51 stolen items, as well as methamphetamine.

To date, detectives have identified nine victims of the thefts. Clay County residents who had a package stolen between November 29 and December 1 and have not yet filed a police report are encouraged to do so.

The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be forthcoming.
