Tragic ATV Accident Claims Life, Injures Teen in Ray County

RAY COUNTY, MO—An all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident on Easter Sunday, March 31st, 2024, has left a family grappling with loss and injury. The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 PM in a field near 32247 Beaver Run Lane in rural Ray County. A 2003 Yamaha Kodiak ATV, driven by 53-year-old David L. Martin of Lawson, Missouri, began to skid as it attempted to avoid a stationary trailer. The ATV overturned, ejecting both the driver and his 13-year-old passenger.

The young passenger sustained moderate injuries and was transported by private vehicle to Liberty Hospital. Mr. Martin suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at 7:36 PM by Dr. Viethaler at Excelsior Springs Hospital.

The Missouri Highway Patrol and the Ray County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.
