Lady Tigers Drop Three in Season Opener at Lathrop Round Robin
Lathrop, Mo. (August 30, 2025) – The Lady Tiger softball team started the 2025 season with three losses at the Lathrop Round Robin Tournament on Saturday. The offense opened the season, averaging nearly six runs a game, but pitching and defense allowed eight runs per game during the three-game opening day.
The first game of the day started off with a 10-6 loss to the Lathrop Mules. The Mules scored one run in the first inning, followed by two in the second, three in the third, and four in the fourth inning for their 10 runs. The Lady Tigers tried scratching their way back into the game with two runs in the second, third, and fourth innings, but that was not enough. They collected seven hits in the game, including doubles by seniors Josie Casler, Kayden Rogers, and Keira Romazon. Romazon took the loss in the circle, pitching an inning plus, giving up three runs on four hits. The Lady Tiger defense struggled, committing three errors in the four-inning game.
The Lady Tigers fell behind the Savannah Savages by giving up a run in the first inning of game two of the day, but scored three in the third inning to take the lead. A two-run double by sophomore Reese Ryan and a sacrifice fly by senior Willa Schreier gave the Lady Tigers a 3-1 lead after three innings. The Savages added two runs on two hits and a Lady Tiger error in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game up, and then added a run in the bottom of the sixth for the win. Ryan collected three of the five Lady Tiger hits in the game, with Rogers taking the loss in the circle, pitching 5 ⅓ innings.
The Benton Cardinals gave the Lady Tigers their final loss on the day in a 10-8 slugfest. The teams combined for 20 hits and combined for five errors defensively to end the day. The Cardinals put together four runs in the first two innings and then two in the third inning on their way to the victory. The Lady Tigers scored a single run in the first, followed by two runs in the second and third innings, and three runs in the fourth, but that was all they could muster in the loss. Seniors Bella Loeffert and Kinley Rogers had three hits apiece in the loss. Romazon took the loss, giving up six runs, only three earned, over an inning of work. The team will look to rebound from the 0-3 start by hosting the Cameron Dragons on Tuesday, September 2, at home this week.
