Evening Farmers Market Launches with Community Fun and Fresh Local Finds
The Excelsior Springs Farmers Market launched its new evening edition this past Wednesday, June 3, drawing families and shoppers downtown for a festive kickoff at its new location in the American Legion parking lot.
Opening night featured a variety of family-friendly activities, including a bounce house and baby goats from Hamilton Homestead, along with Storytime sessions hosted by the Mid-Continent Public Library. Local vendors like Nonnie’s Shaved Ice and Lip Smackin’ BBQ offered refreshments, while MU Extension provided food and gardening demonstrations.
A highlight for children was the Golden Carrot Hunt—dozens of golden carrots were hidden throughout the market for kids to find and trade in at the Farmers Market tent for prize packs. The carrot prize program was made possible thanks to donations from Excelsior Springs Sonic, Dari-B Ice Cream, Mid-Continent Public Library, and Texas Roadhouse in Liberty.
The Farmers Market’s popular Loyalty Card program also returned. Shoppers can pick up a card at the market tent and earn a punch with every visit—both morning and evening. After eight punches, customers are entered into a drawing to win $5 in market bucks.
On June 18, the evening market will host a special Neighborhood Block Party Night, part of Mayor Mark Spohn’s ongoing initiative to promote community-building across Excelsior Springs. Inspired by his goal of encouraging 100 block parties throughout the city, the event builds on the city’s recent recognition as Missouri’s Friendliest Community.
In addition to the evening market, the Morning Farmers Market continues every Tuesday at the Excelsior Springs Community Center from 9 to 11:30 a.m. through August 12. The Evening Farmers Market will run each Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. through the end of October at the American Legion downtown.
