ESHS to Host ‘Prom-Palooza’ for Local Students
Excelsior Springs High School will be hosting a Prom-Palooza event on Monday, March 27, from 6-8 pm in the High School Commons. The event is aimed at providing free prom attire for all students, regardless of their financial background. The school has, for years offered a prom closet for students that needed some financial assistance. Principal, Christen Everett said the idea for this event originated last year during prom season when she and the school counselors brainstormed about hosting a bigger event that could feature more donations and include students from all walks of life.
Over the last year, the school has collected donations of dresses, suits, shoes, jewelry, and purses from the community, which will be available for free at the event. “We just want it to be a fun kind of evening for kids to get to try on dresses and shoes and jewelry purses,” said Dr. Everett. “We’re going to have snacks, music going.” The event will be exclusive to Excelsior Springs High School students from 6-7 pm, but it will be open to students from surrounding communities starting at 7 pm.
Everett said she is looking forward to seeing as many students as possible at the Prom-Palooza event. She hopes that the event will be a success and that it will help many local students enjoy their prom night without worrying about the cost of their attire.
Donations of dresses, suits, shoes, and accessories are still being accepted and can be dropped off at the Excelsior Springs High School main office until March 27th. For more information contact the High School at (816)630-9210.
