Excelsior Springs, Mo. – This Earth Day, the Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation department is continuing its annual community clean-up. Volunteers are invited to roll up their sleeves and help care for our public spaces, with new clean-up zones added to this year’s map. Let’s get down to earth and plant the seeds for a cleaner community!

While it’s not necessary to register, Nate Williams is encouraging sign-ups by email at natewilliams@es-prcc.com for those interested in volunteering with a group. This is especially helpful for groups that want to work together in a certain area and helps in planning for supplies. Groups are encouraged to RSVP by April 12th, but volunteers are still welcome to sign up after that or to join in on the morning of the event.

This year’s clean-up event will be on Earth Day, April 26th, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers will meet at Carolyn Schutte Pocket Park at 117 West Broadway Street, Excelsior Springs, MO 64024.

Fresh gear for a fresh start! Excelsior Springs Parks & Rec brings the style to Earth Day Clean Up with these limited-edition tees.
This year’s Earth Day Cleanup map is packed with fresh zones across Excelsior Springs—from stream banks to trails and alleys. Assemble your team, grab some gloves, and make a difference together!

What to Expect This Year

Upon arrival, volunteers will check in and be assigned to teams. Williams and other lead members will give directions and guidance to groups to ensure everyone knows their role. The Rotary Club will provide free donuts and water for all, as well as limited giveaways like t-shirts or other goodies provided by organizers and sponsors.

Williams reminded everyone to wear clothes they don’t mind getting dirty. “I’ll be in my muck boots walking in the water,” he said. Sponsor-provided trash bags will be available, and Williams hopes to supply limited sets of gloves for those who may not have them.

This year, ESPRCC added more zones in anticipation of an increase in volunteers. These include the hill behind the Clay-Ray Veterans Hall, extending behind the new Lewis Elementary grounds and Wabash on through to Lake Maurer Road, and around the Elms.

This event pulls help from multiple city departments to ensure the safety of volunteers and the proper disposal of waste. Vehicles and staff from ESPRCC, Public Works, and more will be used to make sure the day runs smoothly.
