An early morning house fire claimed the life of one individual Friday after crews responded to a blaze on Stratton Street.

The Excelsior Springs Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at approximately 5:23 a.m. after a report of a residential structure fire. When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and visible flames coming from the front porch of the home.

Crews launched an aggressive interior attack on the fire while conducting a primary search for occupants. The blaze was brought under control, and during a secondary search, firefighters located an adult victim at the rear of the residence. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to assist with the investigation. While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, preliminary findings suggest it was accidental.

Mutual aid was provided by the Liberty Fire Department, Kearney Fire and Rescue, and Ray County Ambulance District. The Excelsior Springs Fire Department extended its gratitude to the responding agencies for their assistance.

Further details, including the identity of the victim, have not yet been released. The Excelsior Citizen will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
