Crash on Salem Rd Claims Two Lives

Multiple citizens inquired about a two vehicle accident on Salem Road at NE 162nd Street on the afternoon of Saturday, December 17, 2022. Excelsior Springs Assistant Fire Chief Camron White reported: “At 2:36pm today ESFD responded to Salem Road north of NE 152nd St on a motor vehicle accident. The accident was found to be located at Salem Rd and NE 162nd St and two fatalities were pronounced on scene. The location was inside of Lawson Fire’s response area. ESFD units remained on scene with Clay County Sheriff’s deputies and Highway Patrol until Lawson’s arrival.”
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the crash occurred as a 2007 Ford Edge driven by James Massa, 73, of Excelsior Estates, MO traveling South crossed the center-line and struck a 2003 Buick Park Avenue driven by Victoria Kohler, 88, of Lawson, MO heading North. Both of the drivers were pronounced dead on the scene by Excelsior Springs firefighter paramedics.
This is the 67th fatal crash this year for Troop A and marks fatalities #69 and #70 for 2022.
