A routine patrol led to a brief but intense manhunt on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, near Mosby, Missouri. According to Sarah Boyd, Public Relations Manager for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 12:30 p.m. when a deputy patrolling on 69 Highway at Cameron Road noticed a driver covering his face while passing the patrol car.
The deputy’s suspicion was further aroused after a check revealed that the vehicle’s license plate was not registered to the car. Attempts to stop the vehicle led to a brief chase as the driver sped away. The pursuit ended on NE 140th Street, west of Rhodus Road, where the car was found abandoned with the driver’s door open and a female passenger inside. While withholding the driver’s name, the passenger confirmed that he had fled the scene.
In response, a coordinated effort between deputies and police from Kearney and Liberty quickly ensued. They established a perimeter around the airport area. A deputy, accompanied by a canine unit, successfully located and apprehended the suspect without further incident.
Upon arrest, the suspect was found to have outstanding warrants in multiple jurisdictions. Additionally, he was in possession of drug paraphernalia with residue, which he admitted to owning. Similar paraphernalia with residue was also discovered in the vehicle.
The female passenger was released at the scene. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing, with further details to be released as they become available.
