EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. (Sept. 3, 2025) – The Tiger soccer team opened the season by scoring 15 goals in its first three matches and claiming second place in the Winnetonka Tournament last week.

The opening matchup against the Ruskin Eagles was a dominating 8-0 win before taking down the Grandview Bulldogs by a score of 6-3 and then falling to the North Kansas City Hornets in the championship match by a score of 4-1. Sophomores Gauge Faccuito and Tyler Wartner led the way for the Tiger offensive attack with two goals each. Senior Brady Schoonover added a goal along with sophomore Logan Harris and freshmen Atticus Due and Zander Wilkins. Junior goalkeeper Brett Jones picked up the shutout win.

The Bulldogs put up more of a battle for the Tigers, but not enough in the semifinal matchup. Wartner picked up two more goals, as did Schoonover. Faccuito and junior Drake Simonitis each scored a goal in the 6-3 win. Schoonover, Faccuito, Wartner and Simonitis each had one assist. Jones had seven saves on 10 shots on goal in the win for the Tigers.

The Hornets dominated possession for much of the championship matchup with 22 shots on goal, with four of those finding the net. The Tigers were only able to get one shot on goal, with Schoonover scoring the lone goal for the Tigers in the loss.

The Tigers will host the Excelsior Springs Tournament this week, hosting Blue Valley North on Sept. 9, Maryville on Sept. 11 and Barstow on Sept. 13.
