On the evening of March 16th, the Business Women of Missouri (BWM) held a program on Domestic Abuse at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Hope House‘s mission is dedicated to making sure every man, woman, and child affected by domestic violence can find refuge and freedom. Through education and empowerment of those who have been impacted by domestic violence, they aim to break the cycle of domestic violence by providing a safe refuge and supportive services. Their Chief Development Officer Anne Aubuchon was in attendance to give the presentation.
Those participating asked questions concerning what local availability there is for citizens to get help. They wanted to know what types of things are needed to help families experiencing violence. Some were relieved to hear that there are services to help male victims, too.

In the Excelsior Springs area, families that find themselves in crisis are encouraged to reach out to Synergy Services, Inc. and/or Tri-County Mental Health Services to seek care. There are victim advocates available for both Clay (816-736-8325) and Ray Counties (816-776-2882). The domestic violence metro hotline for all six Kansas City area shelters is 816-468-5463.
Incoming BWM President Shannon Morgan organized the event, given domestic violence is one of the platform areas for the Business Women of Missouri. She says, “We hope that the event could provide education and resources that will make helping victims a little easier.”
The Excelsior Springs Business Women of Missouri‘s mission is to achieve equity for women in the workplace through advocacy, education, and information. The local chapter supports an annual graduating senior girl scholarship, annual award to a woman activist, membership in the Excelsior Springs Chamber of Commerce, and other activities that fit with their mission.
