‘Proud to Have Served’: Sonya Morgan’s Emotional Farewell to Excelsior Springs City Council
Excelsior Springs, MO–Sonya Morgan, a dedicated public servant who has served on the Excelsior Springs City Council for 12 years, was honored with a proclamation at an early-morning work session Friday. Throughout her tenure, Morgan has driven numerous initiatives that have significantly enhanced Excelsior Springs. Her unwavering dedication to historic preservation is evident in her successful efforts to secure funding grants for the city’s architectural treasures and heritage sites.
Morgan’s contributions have left a lasting impact on the community. She played a pivotal role in projects such as replacing bridges on 10 Highway and upgrading the community’s infrastructure, including helping to write the grant that netted more than $24 million in RAISE funds. Her active involvement in the Downtown Excelsior Partnership’s efforts to revitalize the historic downtown area has also been instrumental. Morgan’s work has directly benefited the citizens of Excelsior Springs, including providing the now beloved community center.
Looking ahead, Morgan remains committed to staying deeply involved in various community initiatives, including serving on the housing committee for Thrive Excelsior, contributing to organizations such as the Chamber, Business Women of Missouri, and PEO, and chairing Friends of the Wells, among others.
During the proclamation ceremony, Morgan expressed her deep appreciation and gratitude to the city and its residents.
