5 Excelsior Springs Teens Injured In Rollover Accident

Five Excelsior Springs teenagers and one teen from Gladstone were injured in a single-vehicle crash mid-day Saturday on Interstate 35 just south of 128th Street. According to a report by the Missouri Highway Patrol, just before 11:55 AM the 18-year-old driver, Emily Kephart of Excelsior Springs, was traveling north on Interstate 35 when she lost control, for unknown reasons, of the 2007 Ram 1500 she was driving. The truck ran off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned, striking the embankment a second time before coming to rest on its top.
The 17-year-old girl from Gladstone, as well as 16 and 15-year-old girls from Excelsior Springs, suffered serious injuries. A 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl, also from Excelsior Springs, had minor injuries. Kephart, the driver, sustained moderate injuries. None of the teens other than Kephart were wearing a safety device according to the report. Kearney Fire and EMS transported all six teens involved to Liberty Hospital.
