CLAY COUNTY, Mo. — A woman was seriously injured Thursday morning after jumping from a bridge along U.S. Highway 69 near Rhodus Road, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the first 911 call came in at 11:03 a.m., reporting a woman sitting on the bridge. Minutes later, another caller reported she had jumped and was lying injured in shallow water below. Deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene.

The woman was briefly conscious and spoke with responders before slipping in and out of consciousness. Excelsior Springs Fire Department personnel placed her on a backboard and, with assistance from first responders, carried her up the embankment.

Deputies estimated the bridge sits 50 to 60 feet above the ground. The woman was transported to a hospital with serious injuries and will also undergo a mental health evaluation, officials said.
