Watkins Woolen Mill ‘Spring on the Farm’ Offers 19th Century Fun for Families

Lawson, MO—Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site invites the public to step back in time and celebrate the arrival of spring at its annual “Spring on the Farm” event on Saturday, May 11, 2024. This free, family-friendly event, located at 26600 Park Road North in Lawson, will run from noon to 4:00 p.m.

Festival attendees can watch live sheep shearing and blacksmithing demonstrations, offering a glimpse into the past with skills essential to 19th-century farm life. In addition to these demonstrations, visitors can stroll through the park’s heirloom garden, which is cultivated using historical methods and seed varieties.

“Spring on the Farm” also encourages hands-on participation with a variety of activities. Guests can make their own rope and rag dolls and engage in other interactive crafts that were commonplace in the 1800s. These activities are meant to provide a deeper understanding and appreciation of historical farm life.

“This event is a wonderful way to connect with the history of Missouri and enjoy the beauty of spring,” said Rebecca Broadbent, one of the park coordinators. “It’s a perfect day out for families, history buffs, and anyone looking to experience something different.”

Admission to the event is free. For more details, visitors can contact the park at 816-580-3387.
