Tigers Split Duals Against Kearney and Chrisman (Jan. 13–15)

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. – The Tiger wrestling team faced Kearney and William Chrisman, finishing with a split in the two duals.

The Tigers fell to the Kearney Bulldogs, 54–21, on January 13 in a Suburban Conference Blue matchup. The night opened at 106 pounds, where sophomore Vincent Holsey lost by fall at the 1:43 mark. The Tigers were open at both 113 and 120 pounds, giving the Bulldogs six points in each weight class. Sophomore Logan Bates dropped a 14–3 major decision at 126 pounds, and freshman Parker Scoma fell by a 12–7 decision at 132.

Junior Carson VanDoremaelen put the Tigers on the board with a 17–1 technical fall victory at 138 pounds. The Tigers were open at 144 before senior Gaige Carr earned a 10–2 major decision win at 150. Sophomore Brody Gustin followed with a win by fall in the 157-pound match at the 5:01 mark. Senior Conrad Purnell lost by fall at 165, but the Tigers picked up six points when the Bulldogs were open at 175. Freshman Landry Hays dropped the 190-pound match by fall in the first period, and senior Cooper Lester lost by technical fall, 18–1, at 215. Sophomore Hunter Crowley closed the night with a loss by fall in the 285-pound match.

The Tigers responded on January 15 with a 43–36 home win over the William Chrisman Bears. The 106-, 113-, and 120-pound weight classes were open, with the Tigers earning six points and the Bears collecting twelve. Bates opened the action on the mat with a 59-second fall at 126 pounds. Scoma followed with a win by fall at 132 in 1:11. VanDoremaelen recorded another technical fall, winning 19–3 at 138. Carr needed just 1:07 to secure a fall at 144.

Freshman Dayton Bell lost by fall at 150 before Gustin dropped the 157-pound match by fall. Purnell answered with a 17–2 technical fall victory at 165. Freshman Maison Logan picked up a win by fall at 175 after 2:57, while Hays lost by fall at 190 with three seconds remaining in the first period. Lester earned a 7–2 decision at 215, and Crowley closed the night with a loss by fall at the 1:15 mark of the first period at 285.

The Tigers now sit at 4–3 in duals this season and will face Raytown South last week before competing in the 54th Annual Platte County Invitational on January 23 and 24.
