Take a Seat: Rumore Nabs 4th Chair at State Music Competition

Excelsior Springs High School Senior, Tyler Rumore took 4th chair trumpet at the Missouri state competition this past week. In a field of more than 100 trumpeters, Rumore rose to the top. He said his director Garrett Jones has instilled him with the confidence to succeed at such a high level. Rumore felt like he’d done well, but Jones felt like he was top five as soon as his performance was over. Rumore says he’s had a lot of support on his path to success from family, friends, and teachers. Former band director Gavin Morris, who left the Excelsior Springs School District to pursue a career as a pastor, even Facetimed with Tyler after the competition to congratulate him. “It was just a really awesome thing,” said Rumore. We met up with Tyler at the Mid-Continent Public library to hear him perform, watch the video above.
