Spire Missouri Proposes Rate Hike; Public Hearings Scheduled Across State

Excelsior Springs, Mo. — Spire Missouri Inc. has filed a request with the Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) to raise its natural gas rates, a move that could increase residential customers’ monthly bills by approximately 15%, or about $14.

The utility company seeks to generate an additional $290 million in revenue. However, $54 million of that is already being collected through the Infrastructure System Replacement Surcharge (ISRS), a program designed to fund safety-related infrastructure improvements. If approved, the remaining $236 million would represent a 14% overall increase in customer charges.

According to Spire, the rate adjustment is needed to recover costs related to infrastructure investments, inflation, service operations, and weather-related demand fluctuations.

The PSC is considering whether to approve the rate change, in whole or in part. The final decision, based on upcoming evidentiary hearings and testimony from stakeholders, is expected no later than October 24, 2025. New rates could vary depending on customer class and usage.
