Clay County, MO – In the early hours of Tuesday, June 6, 2023, a serious accident occurred on NB US 69 just south of Robyn Lane, involving a vehicle colliding with a horse. The incident was investigated by TPR B S Floray of the Missouri Highway Patrol Department.

The crash report reveals that a 2002 Acura, driven by Curtis C Trawick, a 56-year-old male from Lawson, MO, was traveling northbound when it struck a horse that was in the roadway. The collision with the large animal caused the vehicle to veer off the right side of the road and subsequently overturn.

Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, including Clay County Deputies and the Excelsior Springs Police Department, to provide assistance. It was determined that the vehicle sustained significant damage, rendering it a total loss. Rite-Way Tow was responsible for towing the Acura from the scene.

Curtis C Trawick, who was wearing a safety device, suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was promptly transported to Truman Medical Center by LifeFlight for urgent medical attention. The exact nature and extent of his injuries have not been disclosed.

The presence of large animals on roadways can pose a significant hazard to drivers, often leading to unexpected accidents. Authorities urge motorists to remain vigilant and exercise caution, particularly during nighttime hours when visibility may be reduced. If you encounter an animal on the road, it is advised to slow down, maintain control of your vehicle, and avoid abrupt maneuvers that could escalate the danger.

The Missouri Highway Patrol Department continues its investigation into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident. Our thoughts are with Curtis C Trawick and his family, hoping for a swift and full recovery.
