Downtown Excelsior Springs was forever changed this week as the east side of the Royal Hotel was successfully demolished. Demolition was originally scheduled to begin Friday, July 2nd but was postponed until Tuesday, July 6th due to an equipment malfunction. Many in the community joked that the spirits who inhabited the old hotel weren’t quite ready to give it up. But, once the demolition began in earnest the structure came down in just a few days, with the building being leveled by the afternoon of Thursday, July 8th.
