MoDOT to Host Public Meeting on Route D and U.S. 69 Intersection Improvements

Lawson, Mo. – Excelsior Springs commuters who frequently travel north on U.S. 69 may want to attend a Missouri Department of Transportation Kansas City (MoDOT KC) public meeting on Thursday, March 27, to discuss planned improvements at the Route D and U.S. 69 intersection in Lawson.

MoDOT KC cited increasing traffic volumes on both Route D and U.S. 69, particularly during peak hours, as the primary reason for addressing the intersection. The project also aims to improve sight distance on U.S. 69 just south of the crossing.

Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the summer of 2027 and is expected to take about a year. However, MoDOT is still reviewing traffic control measures. Officials noted that keeping the intersection open during construction could significantly extend the timeline and costs due to necessary elevation adjustments for improved sight distance. Closing the intersection could accelerate completion by six to eight months, but final decisions will be made as the project progresses.

The public meeting will be held in an open-house format, meaning there will be no formal presentation. Attendees will have the opportunity to view project displays, ask questions, and provide feedback. MoDOT will also accept public comments on the project’s webpage from 4 p.m. on March 27 through 4 p.m. on April 10.

The meeting will be held on March 27 at Lawson City Hall, 103 S Pennsylvania Avenue, from 4 to 7 p.m. MoDOT encourages community members to attend, learn more about the project, and share their input.
