MoDOT Considers Roundabout at Rt. D and U.S. 69 in Lawson

Lawson, Mo.— Drivers in Lawson may soon see a new roundabout where Route D meets U.S. 69. The Missouri Department of Transportation’s Kansas City office will host a second public meeting to share the latest design and hear questions.

The public meeting is Thursday, Oct. 9, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Lawson City Hall, 103 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Visitors can look at boards, speak with staff, and leave written comments.

MoDOT says traffic has grown on Route D and U.S. 69, especially at busy times. The agency reviewed safety records, public feedback, business access, and the size of the job. A roundabout is now the preferred choice when compared to a signalized four-way, which was also studied. The project also aims to improve sight distance on U.S. 69 just south of the intersection.

The work is still in the planning phase. Construction would begin in summer 2027, with a goal of about one year to finish. Traffic control plans are not final, including detours or exact closure details. Allowing traffic to pass during work could add time and cost, while a full closure could shorten the schedule by six to eight months.

The first public meeting took place March 27, 2025, where plans and diagrams were first introduced, in addition to opening to comments from the public. Community members are encouraged to participate, give input, and stay updated on project progress.
