Letter to the Editor

Man's hands writing a letter

The Excelsior Citizen is proud to provide a dedicated space for community members to express their opinions, share concerns, and contribute to public discourse through our Letters to the Editor section. This platform allows readers to respond to recent coverage, raise local issues, or offer commentary on broader topics relevant to our community.

To maintain a respectful and productive environment, submissions must follow a set of guidelines:

Relevance: Letters should relate to recent articles, editorials, or issues covered by the publication.

Length and Clarity: Letters should be concise—ideally 250–300 words—and clearly written to ensure readability and effective communication.

Originality: Submissions must be original and not published elsewhere.

Identification: Authors must include their full name, address, and contact information for verification. Only the name and city will be published.

No Anonymity: Anonymous letters will not be accepted. Pseudonyms may be used in rare cases, at the editor’s discretion.

Language and Civility: Submissions must use respectful and civil language. Hate speech, libel, or offensive content will not be tolerated.

No Commercial Promotion: Letters cannot be used to advertise businesses, services, or personal interests.

Editorial Rights: Letters may be edited for clarity, length, and style. Significant edits will be communicated to the author.

Submission Frequency: To allow for a variety of voices, individuals are limited to one published letter per month.

Publication Not Guaranteed: All letters are subject to editorial review. Relevance, timeliness, space, and diversity of opinion will factor into publication decisions.

Right to Reply: Letters responding directly to published content, particularly with differing viewpoints, may be prioritized.

Legal Compliance: Letters must avoid defamation, plagiarism, and infringement of legal rights.

Timeliness: Submissions should be sent shortly after the article or event they reference.

Electronic Submission Preferred: Letters should be submitted via email or through the form provided below.

Confirmation of Receipt: While individual acknowledgments may not be possible, an automated confirmation may be sent upon receipt.

If you appreciate the value our local journalism brings to the community, please consider making a recurring contribution to the Excelsior Citizen!
