Keira Romazon Hits 200-Strikeout Milestone as Lady Tigers Blaze Through Fall Schedule
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. — Senior pitcher Keira Romazon reached a major career milestone during the Lady Tigers’ Sept. 20 matchup at Lawson, recording her 200th high school career strikeout.
Romazon entered the game knowing she was just two strikeouts away from the mark. While the 200th strikeout moment didn’t come with a celebration on the field, by the end of the last inning, she had reached 203 strikeouts.
Romazon’s achievement comes during a stretch of high-level play for the Lady Tigers, who improved to 13-5 following two dominant wins over Sherwood and Raytown South last week, and Romazon has added even more to her career stats.
Romazon has been part of a consistent and experienced group of teammates, several of whom she has played with since early childhood. Three of the girls on this year’s team started together in T-ball. By 10U, six of them were together, and they continue playing side-by-side today.
Steady presence in the circle
Romazon’s current success builds on a strong junior season, when she recorded 93 strikeouts over 274 batters faced. She credits her performance not to a signature pitch or routine, but to her mental approach and positivity.
“Just my attitude toward the game,” she said. “Being positive and having a good mental state while pitching really helps.”
She’s also added a lighthearted pregame ritual this season: doing “the worm” before every game, which she shared is more about setting the tone than superstition.
On the mound, she prefers to read the moment rather than rely on a set strategy. She admits it’s satisfying to throw a change-up late in the count and catch a batter off guard, but said she doesn’t follow a single formula.
“It’s kind of all over the place,” she said. “I just do what feels good.”
Romazon has not yet committed to a college program, but is currently in serious discussions with three schools, where she will continue playing at the collegiate level and plans to study psychology.
Her mother, Amanda Romazon, said it’s been rewarding to watch Keira grow as both an athlete and teammate.
“We have just been extremely proud of her,” she said. “We love watching her play the sport that she loves.”
When asked about a favorite memory, Amanda pointed to last year’s district tournament. In the first game, Keira threw nine strikeouts. Later in the same tournament, she came in as a reliever and added eight more.
“She was pretty unhittable,” Amanda said.
With a major milestone behind her, Keira is focused on the games ahead: more innings, more unbeatable pitches, and one final run with the teammates she’s shared the field with for more than a decade.
