EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, MO – A section of Kansas City Avenue in downtown Excelsior Springs will be closed beginning May 13, 2024, to facilitate construction of the new Lewis Elementary School.

According to Aaron Elsasser, Project Manager at Newkirk Novak, the construction company contracted for the project, the road closure is necessary to ensure the safety of workers and the public.

“We have solidified a date for work to start on May 13th,” Elsasser said. “This will require a section of Kansas City Avenue to be closed, with road closure signs going up that morning.”

The closure is expected to last for approximately three weeks, with the road reopening by the week of June 3rd, weather permitting. Elsasser noted that both lanes of Kansas City Avenue will be closed, with a barricade placed just south of Chicago Avenue to allow access for residents who park behind their houses in that area.
