Excelsior Springs Weekly Roundup: From Fundraisers to Fire Drills, a Community in Motion

News Briefs

From summertime fun to serious community support, Excelsior Springs showed its spirit in full force this past week. Here’s a look at the latest happenings around town:

On Wednesday, the Excelsior Springs Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at the Ruey Anne Apartment Complex downtown. Fortunately, it turned out to be a false alarm, but officials remind the public that crews must always respond as if it’s the worst-case scenario in order to remain prepared for any emergency.

That same day at the Excelsior Springs Farmers Market, shoppers helped stock the shelves of the Good Samaritan Center by donating food and household items as part of a community pantry drive. The market continues to host weekly events, and residents are encouraged to stop by, support local vendors, and take part in the fun.

After more than a decade away, the Excelsior Springs Area Chamber of Commerce brought back their annual golf tournament—now called the Summer Swing Tournament. With 12 teams and over 40 local businesses contributing through sponsorships and a silent auction, the tournament raised funds to support business development and chamber-led initiatives. Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation continued their month-long celebration of Parks and Rec Month with Friday’s E-Town Hosedown, where kids enjoyed being sprayed down by the Excelsior Springs Fire Department in the Community Center parking lot—a perfect way to cool off in the summer sun.

Although last Friday’s Lyrics on the Lawn was cancelled due to weather, this week brought sunshine and live music from OC Blue, with many attendees grabbing dinner from Ray’s Diner and enjoying the evening on the Hall of Waters lawn. The series continues for the next five weeks—join the crowd this Friday for a performance by The Scott Moyer Band.

Also on Friday, Shamrock Hills Vineyard and Winery hosted a Veterans Block Party that brought in a crowd of over 110 people. With live performances from Jack Soutter, B Howard Crist, Monte Railey, and Donny Altman, the event raised more than $3,000 for the Clay Ray Veterans Memorial Hall. Food was donated by Donnici’s Italian Deli and Market and Jim McCarty and Becky Treccariche. Funds will help cover repairs after two separate vehicle incidents left damage to the building’s roof.

On Saturday, the Excelsior Springs Community Center partnered with Halberstadt Homes Real Estate to host a PetResource Vaccination Drive. Pet owners were able to get their dogs and cats vaccinated, microchipped, and even neutered at no cost. The event also featured local vendors, adoptable pets from the Animal Control Center, food trucks, and Mackenzie Cole, who drew pet caricatures throughout the afternoon.

And finally, a heartwarming update—citizens who ordered the YeeHaw t-shirts to support local veterans began receiving them in the mail this week. Stay tuned for details on how to join the check presentation and group photo at Memorial Hall’s reopening next month, where we’ll celebrate the funds raised and the community support that made it all possible.

Excelsior Springs continues to show what it means to be a strong and connected community. Each event, donation, and volunteer effort adds another layer to the fabric of this town we’re proud to call home.
