Excelsior Springs to Enjoy Rare Planets on Parade Event Tonight, February 28, 2025

Excelsior Springs residents will be treated to a rare and breathtaking celestial display tonight, as the “Planets on Parade” event unfolds in the skies above. This extraordinary event will take place approximately 45 minutes after sunset, with the best views found by looking toward the western sky.

This evening’s planets alignment will give spectators a chance to see five of the seven planets in our solar system. However, Neptune and Uranus will require the use of viewing equipment for a clear look. The last time such an alignment occurred was in June 2024, but only two planets were visible to the naked eye. This time, the show promises a more impressive spectacle, allowing a better view of the planetary parade.

Good viewing locations in and around Excelsior Springs include Watkins Mill State Park (26600 Park Road North, Lawson), the City of Excelsior Springs airport (1203 Golf Hill Dr), and Shamrock Hills Vineyard and Winery (12300 Shoemaker Road). Shamrock Hills will be hosting a watch party until 8 p.m., giving visitors a chance to enjoy the event with fellow skywatchers.
