EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. (Oct. 5, 2024) — The Excelsior Springs Police Department (ESPD) hosted its first-ever pancake breakfast this morning, raising $450 for the department’s Community Outreach Fund.

Organized by the ESPD Community Outreach Unit, the breakfast served as a fundraiser to support community events and initiatives, such as the department’s recent Night Out Against Crime and Shop With a Cop programs. The fund is also used to purchase memorabilia like challenge coins and badge stickers, which officers distribute to the community during events.

Lieutenant Ryan Dowdy praised the efforts of the unit, including two current academy recruits who helped prepare pancakes and engage with attendees. “We use this fund for different community events, and this breakfast was imagined as a way to bring people together while also raising money to support future initiatives,” Dowdy said.

The Excelsior Springs School District contributed to the event by offering the use of the middle school cafeteria. “Their continued support of our department means the world to us,” Dowdy said. “We appreciate that community partnership.”

The event, which lasted two hours, raised $450, all of which will go directly into the fund to help finance future outreach efforts. According to Dowdy, the Community Outreach Unit is already developing additional fundraising events and looks forward to announcing them in the coming months.

“We’re excited to continue strengthening our relationship with the community through these events,” Dowdy added.
