While storm damage downtown served as a stark reminder of summer’s unpredictable weather, local organizations have kept things moving with free senior fitness classes, upcoming fundraisers, and community events on the horizon. Lyrics on the Lawn Kicks Off with Repeat Offenders

The Downtown Excelsior Partnership’s Lyrics on the Lawn Summer Music Series launched on Friday, June 6, with local favorites Repeat Offenders taking the stage. Held on the lawn of the Hall of Waters, this free, family-friendly concert series will feature local musicians every week through September. Blues Garden Concert Series Opens with Noe Palma

Wabash BBQ kicked off its Blues Garden concert season on Saturday, June 7, with a high-energy performance by Noe Palma from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Known for drawing big crowds all summer long, the free concert series features talented area musicians and offers a fun, laid-back evening of live music in one of Excelsior Springs’ most iconic outdoor venues. 34th Annual ES Hospital Golf Tournament Draws 23 Teams

The Excelsior Springs Health Care Foundation hosted its 34th Annual Golf Tournament on Friday, June 6, at the Excelsior Springs Golf Course. A total of 23 teams participated in the event, which also featured a raffle, silent auction, and the always-anticipated Golf Ball Drop. Proceeds from the tournament will support ongoing projects and improvements at Excelsior Springs Hospital.

Storm Damage Causes Facade Collapse at The Royal Hotel

A severe thunderstorm on Tuesday, June 3, prompted a tornado warning and brought high winds to the Excelsior Springs area. While the worst of the storm passed south of town, strong gusts caused the wooden facade on the northeast corner of The Royal Hotel to collapse. Bricks and debris fell onto vehicles parked below. South Street has been temporarily closed to traffic while the area is secured.

County and Local Law Enforcement Warn of Scams

In a Facebook Post, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office made the public aware of a scam that comes as an offer to be a secret shopper and a check made out for you to deposit. Here’s their post:

Free Senior Fitness Classes

The Excelsior Springs Community Center announced on Facebook that thanks to Clay County Services, they’re proud to offer senior classes at no cost to adults 60 years and older – and no membership is required to join the class! Just show up and enjoy staying active with a supportive community.
