Excelsior Springs Joins City Health Dashboard to Offer Free Access to Local Data
The City of Excelsior Springs has joined the City Health Dashboard, a free online platform that puts vital health and demographic data directly into the hands of local citizens. This tool is now available to the public at no cost and offers user-friendly access to community-level data to better understand health outcomes and key social factors.
The Dashboard compiles data from the 2022 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates provided by the U.S. Census Bureau, including demographic and racial/ethnic subgroup data where available. Excelsior Springs is one of just fourteen Missouri cities currently participating in the platform.
Through an interactive online interface, users can explore over 45 data points across five key categories:
- Health Outcomes
- Social and Economic Factors
- Health Behaviors
- Physical Environment
- Clinical Care
Each metric comes with detailed descriptions, source information, and easy-to-navigate maps, allowing users to see how Excelsior Springs compares to other cities across the country. As of early 2024, nearly 1,000 communities are part of the growing Dashboard network.
The Dashboard was created by the Department of Population Health at NYU Grossman School of Medicine in partnership with the Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service at NYU. Backed by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the initiative aims to give cities a reliable and regularly updated one-stop resource for planning and decision-making.
“More than 80 percent of U.S. residents live in urban areas, yet few tools have provided city-specific insights into the factors that shape health,” said the Dashboard’s creators. “Our goal is to equip communities and city leaders with comprehensive, actionable data to build healthier and more equitable communities.”
In addition to the city-level data, the platform also offers views organized by Congressional Districts, providing a broader lens for understanding health drivers across the region.
The City Health Dashboard continues to expand, with additional data visualizations, new measures, and API access for researchers and developers. For Excelsior Springs, the Dashboard represents a valuable resource for residents, policymakers, and community organizations alike to work toward informed solutions and improved quality of life.
