Excelsior Springs Hospital Health and Wellness Class Speakers

Excelsior Springs Hospital, in collaboration with the Excelsior Springs Community Center, is pleased to announce its upcoming series of health and wellness education forums for August. These free classes are designed to benefit residents of Excelsior Springs and will be held at the Senior Center during the 11:30 a.m. luncheon.

August 9: The Benefits of Farmers Markets

On August 9, join Tammy Murphy as she explores the numerous health benefits of shopping at farmers markets. Murphy will discuss how buying locally and in-season ensures the freshest and best-tasting fruits and vegetables. She will also provide insights into the Excelsior Springs Farmers Market, its offerings, and programs, highlighting how it contributes to overall wellness.

August 16: Nutrition and Health with a Registered Dietitian

Maura Woolsey, a Registered Dietitian at Excelsior Springs Hospital, will lead the session on August 16. Woolsey will discuss how registered dietitians help improve health through nutrition. She will cover various topics, including disease management, weight loss, food allergies, digestive conditions, aging, and sports nutrition. Woolsey will also share information about her inpatient and outpatient services and how they can meet the community’s individual nutrition needs.

August 27: Immunization Awareness and Infection Prevention

In recognition of National Immunization Awareness Month, Angela Ochoa, infection prevention coordinator at Excelsior Springs Hospital, will present on August 27. Ochoa will emphasize the importance of vaccines for people of all ages and discuss efforts to minimize infection risks. She will also explain how the community can contribute to these efforts.

To attend these informative sessions, registration is required for both Senior Center and non-senior lunches. Please visit the Senior Center’s website to register. All events will take place at the Excelsior Springs Community Center. Any changes to the schedule will be posted on the Excelsior Springs Hospital’s Facebook page.
