Excelsior Springs High School Theatre Presents Brighton Beach Memoirs

The weekend of April 8th-10th, the Excelsior Springs High School’s Theatre Department presented Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs, directed by Jeff Haney. Set in 1937 at Brighton Beach, in Brooklyn, New York, teenager Eugene (played by Isaiah Bruley) bounces between an imaginary game of baseball in his front yard, to being blamed for everything that goes wrong. When the family’s financial situation is put to the test by being in the throes of the Great Depression, Eugene’s struggle with puberty and search for identity gives the show the lightheartedness needed for such heavy world topics.
