Excelsior Springs Cross Country Competes at Tim Nixon Invitational

LIBERTY, Mo. (Aug. 31, 2024) — Excelsior Springs High School’s cross-country athletes took to the trails for their first meet of the year, competing in the Tim Nixon Invitational, hosted by Liberty North High School at the Capital Federal Sports Complex. The event, named in honor of former Liberty High School head cross-country coach Tim Nixon, who passed away in 2017, attracted top talent from around the region.

Girls’ Races: In the girls’ 5000-meter run, Kirsten Stout led the way for the Tigers, finishing 27th with a time of 22:52.00, a season-best (SB) for the junior. In the girls’ 2-mile run, Luna Bigham competed fiercely, securing a 48th-place finish with a time of 16:47.20, also a season-best.

Boys’ Races: The boys’ team showed a strong effort in both the 2-mile and 5000-meter events. In the 5000-meter run, Liam Hedding led the Excelsior Springs boys, finishing 36th with a season-best time of 19:13.70, closely followed by Lane Collins, who crossed the finish line in 43rd with a time of 19:40.40. Silas O’Dell rounded out the team’s performance in the 5K, finishing 58th with a time of 20:31.10.

In the boys’ 2-mile run, William Tade paced the Tigers with a 13:37.00 finish, placing 88th, just ahead of teammate Conrad Purnell, who finished 92nd with a time of 13:42.10. Ivan Overfield had a solid run, finishing 47th with a time of 14:13.00, and Henry Lockwood placed 59th with a time of 15:30.30.
