Woodstove Workshop at Watkins Mill State Park

February 10, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

do you wantt o volunteer int he Living History program at Watkins Woolen Mill State Park, but don’t know where to begin? We want to help with that! We are offering workshops for folks who are interested in volunteering with us but don’t hav ea lot of prior experience or background knowledge. One of the activities we do most frequently in our Summer Living history program is cooking lunch on our 19th century woodstove. This is part of our Foodways program, which is a program that focuses on culinary history. At Watkins Mill, we cook recipes from our Watkins Mill cookbook in the Watkins summer kitchen using 19th century methods (or as close as we can to 19th century methods).
We would like to invite folks who are serious about committing to volunteer in our Living History program to take part in  workshop on how to cook on the woodstove. This training is free, but we are asking that volunteers who attend this training commit to volunteering for at least 3 Living History days, including special events.
If you are interested in partipating in this workshop, please let us know! We will send you the information to sign up as a volunteer, and we will see you on February 10th!
At this training we will:

Learn basic safety with woodstove cooking
Learn how to light and control temperature in the woodstove
Bake cookies in the woodstove with longtime volunteer Enola Scrivens from a 19th century recipe

This event is first come first serve, limited spots available:
