Crime Scene Fence Removed from “Haslett House”

December 20, 2022 – The imposing 6ft fence that surrounded the crime scene at the former home of Timothy M. Haslett, Jr. at 301 Old Orchard Ave. was removed today. Haslett’s home was the site of an alleged kidnapping and hostage case in which the 23-year-old victim claims she was held for nearly a month while suffering repeated sexual assault and abuse. The alleged crimes were exposed on the morning of October 8, 2022, when the woman escaped the home and fled to neighbors seeking help.
Workers removing the fence said that even though the home is vacant, “it’s still a little creepy to be here, thinking of what happened.” Excelsior Springs Police Chief Gregory Dull said the owners of the property were able to obtain an emergency eviction in late November giving them authority to begin clearing out the home to determine if, or how, it will be renovated. “We kept the fence up so we could be there just to kind of monitor as [they] brought stuff out in case we saw anything that had potentially evidentiary value. We’re past that point now and so we no longer need the fence… everything’s been collected that can be collected,” said Dull.
Curious citizens may see some activity at the property as the owners consider its future and continue the gruesome task of reclaiming the home. Please be courteous and remember that although the fence is no longer there it is still private property.
Haslett is scheduled to appear in Clay Co. Courts on January 10, 2023, for a preliminary hearing.
