In an effort to combat teen drug abuse, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office is inviting parents to an event titled “Hidden in Plain Sight,” which will take place at Winnetonka High School (5815 NE 48th St., Kansas City, Mo.) on Monday, March 18, at 6 p.m. This free event will educate parents and guardians on how to recognize signs of illegal drug use by allowing them to inspect a staged teenager’s bedroom and vehicle at the school.

The activity, devised by a School Resource Deputy from the Sheriff’s Office, gives parents the knowledge to identify hidden indicators of drug abuse in their children’s environments and allows for early intervention. Attendees will have the opportunity to walk through a meticulously arranged teen’s bedroom and examine a vehicle prepared by the Kansas City Missouri Police Department, both setups designed to reveal common concealment spots for drugs.

The Sheriff’s Office’s Drug Task Force will also explain the latest drug trends in the community. School Resource Deputies will also be available to answer questions and provide one-on-one guidance. The event is a proactive move by the Sheriff’s Office to combat the dangers of drug abuse, including its potentially fatal consequences, by arming parents and guardians with critical awareness and intervention tools.

For more info on the event, contact the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at (816) 407-3750.
