Citizen Pet of the Week: Pyper

Pyper is always on the lookout for new friends!

Welcome to another edition of Citizen Pet of the Week, where we’re thrilled to introduce the lively and lovable Pyper, a two-year-old Miniature Australian Shepherd owned by Jill Curtis. Born on October 4, 2022, Pyper has already made a big impact in Jill’s life—and stolen quite a few hearts along the way.

Jill affectionately describes Pyper as a “diva” and a “drama queen,” but also as one of the “joys of her life.” Pyper came into Jill’s life at a “crucial time,” demonstrating the profound bond pets can form with their humans. Jill’s favorite thing about Pyper is her magnetic personality, saying she has an unmatched “zest for life!”

This spirited pup has some adorable quirks and favorite things, including a love for ice, food (especially blueberries), and making friends with just about every person she meets.

Pyper hams it up for the camera!

Pyper shares her home with her 12-year-old sister, Gigi, a Chorkie (a Chihuahua-Yorkie mix). The Curtis family is full of dog lovers, and multiple members of the family own dogs from the same breeder as Pyper. Surrounded by her extended furry family, Pyper is always in good company!

The Curtis family’s connection to Excelsior Springs runs deep. Jill’s mom once owned the beloved Ray’s Diner in downtown Excelsior, making the location a perfect backdrop for our photoshoot with Pyper. True to her playful nature, Pyper was far more interested in the hustle and bustle of Broadway than posing for the camera!

Choosing the perfect name for Pyper was no small feat, so Jill turned to friends for inspiration. The result? A name that fits her vibrant personality. Fun fact: all the dogs in the Curtis family from this breeder have names ending in “er,” giving them a special connection beyond their shared lineage.

A big thank you to Jill and Pyper for sharing their story with us. Stay tuned next week for another Excelsior Springs pet to take the spotlight!
