A new chapter is beginning for Excelsior Springs High School athletics and activities. As longtime Activities Director Eric Marshall prepares to retire, his successor, Doug Baker, is looking ahead—to strengthening youth involvement, expanding student opportunities, and guiding the Tigers through the transition into the Midland Empire Conference.
After just three years in the Suburban Conference, Excelsior Springs is making another major move in high school athletics. The school board voted 5-1 on Feb. 11 to accept an invitation to the Midland Empire Conference, citing better competitive balance and postseason alignment, though some raised concerns about whether stepping away from larger suburban schools was the right long-term decision.
The Excelsior Springs School Board approved major changes for the district during its Feb. 11 meeting, including a shift to the Midland Empire Conference for athletics and funding approval for updated firefighter training gear at the Career Center. The board also discussed filling a vacant seat following Troy Snelling’s resignation.
