Celebrating its 24th year, the 2024 BBQ Fly-In on the River lit up Excelsior Springs this past weekend, drawing competitors and enthusiasts from across the Midwest and beyond. The event, held on August 16-17, featured 65 competitive BBQ teams from eight states, 17 home brewers showcasing 54 home-brewed beers, and 16 downtown businesses participating in the Friday night On The Rocks Whiskey Stroll.
Friday night brought more than just barbecue downtown. Both Ciao Bella and Solana hosted in store pop ups during the Whiskey Stroll.
The Citizen sat down at one of Knit Ewe Together’s Bring Your Own Craft (BYOC) nights and found a lot more than just a yarn store. Knit Ewe’s owner, Shawna Stombaugh, has created something so warm and welcoming in her store. She also has a true sense of community and collaboration with other business owners.
The Excelsior Springs Middle School Gym buzzed with excitement and anticipation on Monday, August 12th, as scores of students and their families gathered for the Excelsior Springs School District’s annual Back to School Resource Fair. Held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, the annual event is an effort to ensure that every student, from Pre-K to 12th grade, is equipped with the tools they need for a successful academic year.
