For the first time, Excelsior Springs leaders, churches, and service providers are sitting at the same table to address homelessness, looking for practical ways to connect services and prepare for the winter ahead.
The early numbers make it look like local governments are gaining value — millions more in assessed property growth between 2024 and 2025. But that doesn’t translate directly into new money for schools or city services. Because of Missouri’s tax laws, cities must lower rates when values climb, and the senior discount is applied afterward. That means the reports showing higher assessed values don’t give a clear picture of how much tax revenue will actually be collected.
The Excelsior Springs City Council on Monday, August 18, 2025, approved measures ranging from board vacancies and golf course equipment purchases to utility contracts and a pool safety upgrade, while also formalizing its denial of an Oxford House zoning request. July’s financial report showed revenues slightly ahead of expenses, and councilmembers closed the evening with reflections on a successful barbecue festival, community milestones, and city staff appreciation.
