A tragic double shooting that occurred in Excelsior Springs last year, initially resulting in one fatality, has now been upgraded to a double homicide after the second victim, Bobby Neal Jr., succumbed to his injuries this spring.
On the morning of October 13, 2023, the Excelsior Springs City Council convened for an early meeting at 8:30 a.m. due to scheduling conflicts and a relatively short agenda. On the morning of October 4, 2023, at approximately 6:50 AM, the Excelsior Springs Police Department responded to a reported single-vehicle-to-pedestrian accident at the intersection of US 69 HWY Southbound and N Jesse James Rd. The incident involved a Ford Freestyle Minivan driven by a 79-year-old resident of Polo, MO, and a 61-year-old pedestrian from Lawson, MO.
