Adding to the heart-wrenching scene, a brown dog with a red collar was spotted near the accident site. Officers presume the canine to be the victim’s pet, but they have been unable to capture the animal.
Rural railroad tracks pose unique risks to pedestrian safety. With limited visibility and potentially infrequent train schedules, it is crucial for pedestrians to exercise extreme caution near train tracks. Always adhere to designated crossing areas, never attempt to outrun a train, and be aware of your surroundings, listening for any approaching trains.

12:30 pm – Railway Police arrived on the scene with a train that is now stopped on the tracks.
12:50 pm – Law enforcement on the scene indicated that the person was an adult male. Because it is technically outside of Excelsior Springs city limits, Highway Patrol is on the way to conduct an investigation.
