Alleged Kidnapper/Sexual Assailant Timothy Haslett Pleads for Parental Rights

Tuesday, November 29, 2022 – The alleged kidnapper and sexual assailant Timothy Haslett Jr. of Excelsior Springs, MO penned an 8-page, hand-written, plea last week asking Jackson County family court judge, Marco Roldan, to forego a suspension of Haslett’s visitation rights with his young son. Because the charges against Haslett are so serious, Haslett’s ex-wife, who currently has custody of their child, filed for temporary sole custody and a temporary block of Mr. Haslett’s visitation rights.

In his lengthy letter, Haslett argued several different ways for the retention of his current custody situation to remain in place. He argued that the restraining order violated his constitutional rights and went on to say that the nature of the claims against him are “spurious at best.” He said that by default his detention for alleged crimes created a “sufficient barrier of protection from physical harm, if such a threat even existed.”

Haslett claimed that his ex-wife is motivated purely by the potential for monetary gain from the reduction of child support and the benefits of tax breaks. He said news outlets have portrayed him unfairly, presenting a one-sided narrative that is “improper, unjust, and unfair,” and should not be used as evidence against him in the family courts. Haslett was arrested on charges of rape, kidnapping, and sexual assault on October 7, 2022, after a 23-year-old woman was found fleeing from his home where she told neighbors she was held for over a month.
A trial to determine the custody case is scheduled for January 3, 2023. The pre-trial hearing regarding the charges of rape, kidnapping, and sexual assault against Haslett was rescheduled from December 2, 2022, to January 10, 2023.
