Citizen Pet of the Week: Charlie and June

With their paws crossed and matching expressions, Charlie and June are the definition of sibling goals. Who could resist these sweet faces?

Excelsior Springs, Mo. (March 16, 2025) – Welcome to another edition of Pet of the Week! This week, meet Charlie and June, owned by Tonnie and Brandon Peoples. Charlie is a six-year-old Golden Retriever Mix and June is a fifteen-month-old Golden Retriever.

The Peoples have owned Charlie practically his whole life, adopting him from Wayside Waifs six years ago. They were on a waiting list to meet him and when the people above them didn’t show up, they got their chance and adopted Charlie that same day! They have had June for about a year now. Adopting her at three months old when they lost a family pet and didn’t want Charlie to be an only dog. Tonnie shared with the Citizen, “Charlie and June are the best of friends.”

Whether it's playtime or just lounging around, these two are always side by side. Charlie, the wise and calm one, and June, the playful and energetic snuggle bug!

June’s favorite things include Chuck It balls, ice cubes, and unfortunately any chance to get muddy. While Charlie’s favorite things include napping all day, talking back, and being nosy. Charlie will put his entire head into any shopping bag the Peoples bring home. Tonnie shares he also “shoves his entire face into laundry baskets to sniff the clothes inside”.

The Peoples love June’s snuggle bug nature, coming to them for bedtime snuggles every night. They love Charlie’s energy, sharing how he kicks the grass and gets “immediate zoomies literally every time after he goes potty outside.”

Charlie and June have such distinct personalities, June being “big and bossy” and Charlie being “calm and sweet”. Though they may sound like opposites, they really compliment each other quite well.

A big thank you to the People’s for sharing Charlie and June with us this week!

Charlie and June take their job of keeping an eye on the neighborhood very seriously. Nothing escapes their watchful eyes from the back of the couch!
