Painting the Town – New Murals Installed in Downtown

Photo and lettering by Clary Rhyne

As you wander through the streets of our downtown, you may have noticed a transformation unfolding on the walls around you. This change is largely thanks to the creative endeavors of artists like two of our remarkable muralists, Clary Rhyne and Jacob Duncan.

Clary has recently graced the exterior of Casa Di Vite International Wine Cafe with her artistic vision. Her journey as a mural artist has taken her across the country, notably with Bass Pro and on the grand finale of the Ty Pennington show in Joplin, after the devastating F5 tornado.

Her art, however, does more than just adorn walls. During our community festivals, Clary’s face painting has become a delightful activity, adding a splash of whimsy and color to the festivities. Her work is not only a feast for the eyes but also a treasure hunt. In her latest mural at Casa Di Vite, keep an eye out for her “Easter egg” – a charmingly painted mouse hidden within the scene. Jacob Duncan’s name is synonymous with the art that beautifies downtown Excelsior Springs. His murals, often created with his masterful airbrush technique, bring to life scenes from history, adding depth and narrative to our town’s walls. His artistic influence extends beyond our community, with eight notable works in the county, and multiple others across the state of Missouri.

Recently, Jacob has added a captivating image to the facade of The Atlas Saloon, further enriching our town’s visual storytelling. His work has not only caught the eye of locals but also garnered attention from the Missouri Photo Workshop, a testament to his skill and creativity. As Clary and Jacob continue to paint their visions on the walls of our town, they do more than decorate. They weave a living canvas that tells the story of our community, its history, and its people. Their murals are not just artworks; they are landmarks of communal pride and creativity, inviting residents and visitors alike to pause, admire, and feel connected to the rich story of our town.
