Fire on Dawn Ave. Claims One Life

November 21, 2022 – According to Excelsior Springs Fire Chief Joe Maddick, at 5:56 PM the Excelsior Springs Fire Department responded to a report of a residential structure fire with a victim trapped at 21 Dawn Ave. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and fire coming from the garage and basement area of the home. Firefighters entered the residence and found a victim inside. The victim was rescued from the residence and transported to Excelsior Springs Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. Mutual aid fire departments from Kearney, Lawson, and Liberty were called in to assist. The State Fire Marshal’s office was called to investigate per state and local policies.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office. The victim’s name has not yet been released. No Firefighters were injured. Fire crews returned to service at 11:50 PM.
