911 Caller Details Encounter with Victim of Kidnapping
Lisa Johnson was enjoying the morning sun, sitting near her front door when she realized there was trouble in her neighborhood. Lisa said she heard a raspy voice calling out for help and when she looked out the storm door she saw a young woman approaching her home exhibiting clear signs of distress. When she first saw the woman she thought it was some sort of Halloween joke but quickly realized what she was seeing was all too real.
After speaking with the victim for just a few moments Johnson knew she had to call the police, but she says the victim was so scared she didn’t want her to make the call. “If he finds out you called, he’ll kill us both,” Lisa recalled the woman saying. Lisa went in to get her phone and put her dog in the backyard. “Considering the situation, I was afraid my dog might attack,” Lisa said.
When she returned to the front door she saw the victim had already moved on to the next house, but she remained on the phone with the police giving them the details of what she’d just witnessed. Lisa said she was thankful to see the police arrive and take the woman to the hospital. She says she was especially relieved when she learned that the woman’s family came to be with her in the hospital. “Having her family there had to make it a little bit better, but I know she’ll probably never be the same,” Lisa said with tears in her eyes.
